PATIENT ALERT

Our pharmacy team are committed to being extra cautious during this time to ensure a safe and clean working environment to protect the health of our staff and customers.

To deliver this service safely to our customers we have implemented the following measures:

If you are unwell please do not attend:

If you have any COVID‐19 or flu like symptoms including fever, sore throat, cough or shortness of breath please do not present for your flu shot. Please call our pharmacy, cancel and rebook for another time when you are well.

If you are in self‐isolation, you are not allowed to leave your home to have your flu shot:

If you have been told by a health professional that you meet the criteria for self‐isolation you must not enter our pharmacy. Leaving your house puts others at risk and is breaking the law. Please call our pharmacy to cancel and rebook after medical clearance has been given for you to end self‐isolation.

Hand sanitisers:

Our pharmacy will have access to hand sanitiser for use by the Pharmacist between each vaccination and will be made available for customer use. Please note that it is not a current requirement that gloves must be worn, as long as proper hand hygiene practices are being followed.

Cleaning and disinfecting of our pharmacies:

In addition to our usual cleaning procedures we have added additional regular cleaning and disinfection of all hard surfaces.

Social distancing:

Staff and customers are encouraged to leave 1.5 meters between each other whenever possible.

The immunisation vaccine uses the body’s natural defence mechanism to build resistance to infection. The vaccine contains inactive particles that stimulate the immune system to help develop a resistance to the flu.
Vaccination is the best defence against the flu. The flu vaccine stimulates the body to make antibodies, which fight the influenza virus. If you have been vaccinated, when you encounter the virus, your body is better prepared to destroy it, which helps prevent getting the flu.
The best time for you to be vaccinated against the flu is Autumn before the flu season starts.
No vaccine is 100% effective but evidence shows that the flu vaccine provides a good level of protection in healthy people.
The flu vaccination is designed to protect you against the peak winter flu season. The best protection against influenza occurs with the first 3 to 4 months following vaccinations. Protection from the vaccine is expected the develop two to three weeks after immunisation. With each season, and sometimes even within the same year, there can be different flu strains so annual vaccinations are recommended.

The skin around the vaccination site may become red or sore, or you may also experience itching, bruising or mild swelling. Some people may also experience a mild fever, muscle aches, headache, or swelling of the lymph gland (under the armpit). These symptoms usually resolve within two days but if you have any concerns, please speak to your Pharmacist or Healthcare Professional.

In some instances, there may also be a risk of other effects such as fainting. If you have Guillain-Barre syndrome, there may be a risk of neurological symptoms. If either of these are relevant for you, please inform your Pharmacist before administering your vaccine.

Customers should not have the flu vaccine if there is a known allergy to eggs or chicken feathers, or if they’ve had a known allergic reaction to a vaccine in the past. Some customers may be eligible for a free flu vaccination under the National Immunisation Program, please see your pharmacist or doctor for more information.
